Many communities today have introduced body-worn cameras for law enforcement officers. Implementing this technology is complex, and usually costs a significant amount of money for equipment and electronic storage space. Few communities, however, have taken the time to examine the social scientific research on police body-worn cameras. In this webinar, we will examine the existing research on body-worn cameras. We will review the research on public and officer attitudes about body-worn cameras. We will then review the research on the effects of body-worn cameras on citizen complaints, use of force incidents, and prosecutions of criminal offenders. This information will prove useful to law enforcement agencies considering implementing a body-worn camera program.
