On August 23 of 2020, Jacob Blake was shot and severely wounded by police officers responding to a domestic disturbance call in Kenosha, Wisconsin.  In the days that followed, protests and violence enveloped the city of Kenosha and the shooting became yet another flashpoint in the national dialogue around police use of force and race.

The purpose of this webinar is to analyze the decision by the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office not to charge the officers involved in spite of the political environment surrounding the event.  By evaluating this high profile use of force case, Attorney Dawn Parsons will discuss the factors involved in determining the legality of officers’ use of force actions.  These factors include:

  • Self-Defense and Defense of Others Under the Law
  • The Standard of Reasonableness Articulated in Graham v. Conner
  • Officers’ Professional Obligation to Act
