Public safety agencies across the country allow their officers, deputies, or firefighters to take on “light duty” administrative assignments while recovering from illness or injury. The intent behind this practice is generally to support an employee by allowing them to maintain all the benefits of their active sworn position while they recuperate and contribute to the agency in other ways.
However, when light duty policies are not carefully crafted and consistently applied, the results can be extremely costly to the agency in terms of legal liability, organizational stress, and public safety.
In this webinar, Attorney Matt Dolan will discuss the manner in which costly agency liability and public safety risks often result from insufficient light duty policies, and the manner in which clear and informed policy decisions can limit those risks.
