Despite new initiatives to increase police hiring in departments throughout the nation, recruiting and retaining qualified officers remains one of the most serious challenges facing communities across the country.  These struggles are not new, as many agencies have seen a decline in qualified candidates dating back long before the nationwide unrest of 2020—one that shows no signs of being by alleviated by an approach deferring to “the way we’ve always done things.”

In this webinar, Attorney Matt Dolan will discuss some of the critical lessons learned by agencies across the country over the past year when it comes to what is and is not working in police recruiting.  The discussion will place a particular emphasis on:

  • Re-evaluating hiring criteria—distinguishing between “red tape” from essential job requirements
