Each of us has a duty to intervene to protect our fellow officers in the field. We routinely practice this principle regarding physical dangers. We watch our partners’ backs to warn them about physical dangers and physically intervene to protect them from those dangers. We would not hesitate to intervene if someone threatens our partner physically.

But why, then, do we often stand by, acting powerless, when our partner losses his or her composure in a verbal altercation? Why do we fail to protect one another from being “rope-a-doped” into verbal interactions that can unnecessarily escalate situations and imperil their careers?  This critical training provides public safety professionals with the vital skills to Survive Verbal Conflict®, thereby keeping the training tape from running out!

In this two-hour webinar, Chief Harry P. Dolan (ret.) will explain the importance of his Verbal Contact and Cover Principle, which has provided tens of thousands of public safety professionals throughout the United States with critical tools to both de-escalate verbal encounters and honor our Moral and Legal Duty to Intervene.  This training is a critical component of his widely successful verbal de-escalation training—Surviving Verbal Conflict®.

Webinar learning objectives will include:

  • Acting pre-emptively before your fellow officers make career damaging statements
  • Understanding the Language of the Street Fallacy
  • Recognizing why officers fall prey to the Rope-a-Dope Syndrome
  • Utilizing the Sergeant Coffee technique to diffuse volatile situations
